Linked Connector on an Edge Transport with EdgeSync

$

So I'm having an issue which I think I understand, but I can't think of a way around it.

I'm trying to create Linked connectors on Edge server. Trouble is, if I try the command to link them from the Edge, it says it has a subscription and I must run the command from the Hub. When I run it from the Hub, it can't find the receive connector on the Edge that I'm trying to link!

Any ideas here?

Thanks

Mailbox database size growing abnormal in C drive

Hi,

I'm quite newb in Exchange server & would like to request help to solve the issues.

The situation is like that, I had 1 Exchange 2010 server which already upgraded to SP3 (version 14.3 build 123.4) & it is running Hub Transport & Client Access roles. The mailbox databases are stored at different server which I named it MBX1 & MBX2 here, while mailbox database at MBX1 is mounted on the Exchange server. The mailbox database at MBX1 will replicate to MBX2 realtime using CA ARCserve RHA manager.

But, I had facing issue after I upgraded my MBX1 & MBX2 servers from Exchange 2010 SP1 to SP2. The CA ARCseeve RHA Manager not able to perform the replication & prompt me error message. Initially, I thought it was that application issue as its engine or software version is old now (version r16 SP2). Until yesterday, I suddenly noticed that the C drive in my MBX2 server is running low, the free space drop to hundreds KB now.

Let me list down my hard disk structures at MBX1 & MBX2 servers:

MBX1

C: 100GB

D: 450GB

E: 100GB

F: 200GB

MBX2

C: 100GB

D: 512GB

E: 100GB

F: 200GB

I was curious why the free space on C drive at MBX2 is getting lower as my databases are located at D & F drives on both servers. I can understand if the size of mailbox databases at MBX1 server is bigger than MBX2 server as the replication is not working at this moment. The free space of C drive at MBX1 server is normal (about 12GB free space). Previously before upgraded the Exchange 2010 from SP1 to SP2 for MBX2, the free space of C drive is more or less same as MBX1 server. At the same time, I also noticed the *.edb files at D & F drives stop growing its size. I double check the location of the mailbox databases mounted on Exchange server is in correct path but why the size is not increase as we keep receiving & sending everyday? (Our users still able to send & receive emails as usual right now)

In order to know where the files grow bigger, I using TreeSize Free to check it. I noticed the files on MBX2 server at this location keep increasing.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 1594610415

I was totally not idea how it happen & the impact will come to my users later.

Hope someone can provide me the solution to bring it back to 'normal' situation.

Thanks.

OWA Timeout and Multiple Web Browser Windows Open

Hello.

I have a question regarding OWA timeouts and opening a new window within an OWA session (for example, composing a new email in a separate window).

We have our OWA timeout set for 30 minutes.

The scenario is like this:
I have an OWA session open, and I click New to compose a message.  I don't compose anything, and just leave that New message window open in the background while i read some other messages in my OWA session.  It takes me 30 minutes to read messages, delete messages, etc.  All of a sudden, because of the inactivity in my New message window, my session times out.  Why does this happen?  Shouldn't the main window where I was working keep the session alive?

I read this article on user activity, but it doesn't specifically shed any light on the behavior of new windows that are open.  I'm assuming a new window will refresh the session, and if there is no activity in that window for the timeout period specified, it will just timeout all windows.  Is this expected and by design?  Please advise, and thank you!

Certificate being revoked

Our certificate is being revoked due to the newgeneric top-level domains (gTLD).
Here is our problem, for which I need help:Our domain's website is hosted by a company who does not provide email services (I can't change this). So, our domain server (2011 SBS Standard), with Exchange 2010uses companyname.city and does not directly face the Internet. Our email is routed through Comodo's antispam gateway who also provides smart host relaying of outbound email. We are using a fixed DYNDNS entry to direct our mail to our(static) public address. All users are connected using Outlook 2010 and 2013 in Exchange mode. It required some entries in the HOSTS files of the users butthe domain is small and this has been manageable. Several of the users are using smartphones and MacBook's but all devices, including computers in the domain, have an Exchange connection, notimap or pop.
With the approval of new .city domains, our certificate provider is required to revokethe cert unless we own the company.city domain, which is not yet forsale. I am trying to find whoever owns that domain and reserve our name but have not yet been able to do so.
The cert's subject name is company.dyndnsentry.com, one of thealternatesubject names is servername.company.city (cause of revoke), the rest (autodiscover, etc) are either company.comor company.dyndnsentry.com. I am thinking that removing the company.city alternate subject name will cause all exchange connecteddevices to stop connecting.

Any and all suggestions welcomed.

EdgeSync error 1024 appears after 3d party certificate installed

We installed 3d party certificate (instead of default self-signed) on our CAS servers (CAS+HUB roles). After that error 1024 begin apperaing in event viewer on CAS: Failed to connect to the Edge Transport server ADAM instance with exception The LDAP server is unavailable..  This could be caused by a failure to resolve the Edge Transport server name *edgeFQDN* in DNS, a failure trying to connect to port 50636 on *edgeFQDN*, network connectivity issues, an invalid certificate, or an expired subscription. Verify your network and server configuration.

I already tried to resubscribe edge servers, delete 3d party certificate and create new self-signed certificate, checked TranportServer intracommnications certificate - nothing helps. Mail flow works well. Any ideas?

Rooms not showing up at Room Finder

Exchange 2010, Outlook 2010.

I've created a Room Mailbox and a Room List (Distribution Group), the room mailbox is a member of this room list.

When I try to set up a new meeting, I choose the room list at "Show a room list:" but at "Choose an available room:" just displays "None".

At "Suggested times" it says "1 available room" with all available times.

Where is my room? :)

Thanks.

Delayed mail delivery after Rollup 6 install

After updating Exchange 2010 Sp3 to rollup 6, users are reporting that emails delivery is very slow and takes several hours to appear in Outlook. Mail delivery in OWA is instant.

The problem is fixed by disabling the Exchange cached mode option in Outlook but is not the best solution for laptop users.

Is this a known issue with rollup 6 or any patches available to fix this?

thanks.

Cannot expand public folders in Outlook but can in OWA

Hi All,

I have a problem which I hope some one might be able to shed some light on. Firstly, the environment is Exchange 2010 (v 14.01.0438.000) and all clients use Outlook 2007. We have one user in the organisation who recently noticed that he cannot expand public folders. He had been able to do so a couple of months back but could not pin point the time it stopped working. The error received reads :-

"Cannot expand the folder. The set of folders cannot be opened. The attempt to log on to Microsoft Exchange has failed."

I thought that this might be a permissions issue but this particular user can access the public folders via OWA. Also, my AD account was a copy of this user's and I can access public folders without issue.

I have tried the following so far :-

  1. Tried running Outlook in safe mode
  2. Tried recreating the Outlook profile.
  3. Tried creating a new Outlook profile on a different client PC.
  4. Tried running Outlook in cached an online modes.
  5. Ran Exchange BPA and found no issues.
  6. Checked ADSIedit for old administrative groups left over from past migrations.
  7. used the test-outlook connectivity cmdlet from powershell which ran it's tests successfully.
  8. This user originally set up all the public folders and was still listed as the owner of all of them.
  9. Tried creating a new public folder.
  10. Checked for an Outlook update that had caused a similar issue.

All the above failed to progress the situation. I have come across posts online that sound very similar, one stated that a Microsoft tech had found a permission that wasn't correct but didn't list which permission and the other related to an update to Outlook that had triggered it. I can confirm it's not the update and I have checked permissions in the public folder management utility in Exchange. Also, my AD account is a copy of his and I can access the folders without issue.

I have also considered what may have changed on the network recently. The only major change has been a new admin password but I cannot see how that would be relevant.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Send As - Not able to configure in Exchange but still can in AD

Hi everybody,

Not really a question, not really an issue either, so feel free to recategorize.

I am at the moment working Helpdesk for a company. And as such, they removed the rights for us to manage send as in Exchange server console. I am also unable to use Add-ADPermission cmdlet (says unknown even if I force add the AD module)

However, we are still able to do it by going to AD, security and manage the permission there.

Is this an expected behavior or is this a consistency issue ?

OWA Regional Settings: Unexpected Error

I've got one single user who can't change the time zone within OWA. As soon as he clicks on "Options -> Settings -> Regional" he gets an "unexpected error". All other users are not affected. As a workaround he still can use "Outlook Web App Light" to change the time zone, but I'd like to fix the problem.

Environment: Exchange 2010 SP3 RU6 / Windows 2008 R2 / IE11

SendAs distributiongroup but store sent mail in shared mailbox?

$

Hi!
Our environment is HOSTED Exchange 2010 SP3 RU4. I have an issue that I wanna solve entirelywithout any fixes on the client side.
Say we have a shared mailbox with the primary address info@company.com and an alias address of info@newcompany.com.
The users would like to work in the same mailbox, but respond to mails with different outgoing addresses.
This doesn't seem possible in Exchange 2010. The 'send as' appears to only work for the primary address and none of the aliases.

So I got another idea. Use an distributiongroup for the alias info@newcompany.com and put the shared mailbox as a member so it receives all the mails.
Now I can send mail as both addresses and the received mails all appear in the same mailbox.
However now we get the issue with where the sent items are restored.
I configured 'MailboxSentItemsConfiguration' on the shared mailbox so when they send mail as the primary address they get stored in both the users and shared mailbox "sent folder".
But when they send mail as the distributiongroup the mail is only stored in the users sent folder.
Is there any work around for this? There is no equivalent for MailboxSentItemsConfiguration for dist groups obviously.
I was thinking of an organization rule to make sure the outgoing mail with the alias address was stored in the sent folder in the shared mailbox, but that doesn't seem possible?

Last resort would be to break apart the shared mailbox into two separate mailboxes if there is no other solution.
I've also tried creating a second shared mailbox for the alias address and configure sent items there and then use the AD-attribute "TargetAddress" and redirect all incoming mail to the first shared mailbox.
This works for incoming e-mail, but the sent mail still get saved in each of the shared mailboxes sent folder.
Havent found any way to redirect the sent items to the sent folder of the shared mailbox with the primary address either.

Worst case scenario they will have to live with double mailboxes i suppose, and they will probably do this before they implement client-side fixes.
Grateful for a solution!

how to setup mx records for primary and secondary sites

mx record

mail.domain.com - public ip x.x.x.x (on the primary site)

we have now established a secodary passive site with its own public ip y.y.y.y

My question is when the primary site fails, do I have to change the public dns mapping for mail.domain.com to y.y.y.y ?

or do I create a second mx record ?
