Problems with OWA

0
0

We recently started having an issue with Exchange 2010 OWA (with all service packs and updates installed).

We can log in to OWA and browse the email but nothing else.

I can't expand folder - just get refreshing view.

I can click on calendars and contacts but this freezes OWA and I have to use F5 to refresh the page which brings me back to my inbox.

If I try to empty deleted items I get a message invalid response from the server and the box does not get emptied.

If it try clicking on options nothing happens.

I can't send email either.  When I click send nothing happens.

I have tried making sure the server was up to date and rebooting it.

Checked for corruption in the database

Reset the following virtual directories owa and ews and then did an iireset.

When these issues happen I dont see any corresponding error or warning messages in the event log.

Not sure where to go from here.

Items are not moved to the deleted items folder when they expire

Hey

I have Exchange 2010 Server (Version: 14.01.0438.000) and configured a retention policy with one retention tag for theinbox that moves items after 365 days to the deleted items folder. I have assigned this policy to one Mailbox to see if it works. It doesn't. :)

All Items are "stamped" correctly with a expiry date. And the Messages show now "This item is expired" for example:

I made the Policy a week ago and waited to see if the items will be moved but nothing happen until today. The Application Log shows no errors or warnings. I already used "Start-ManagedFolderAssistant" multiple times....

what is wrong here? And how do i track the problem down?

i also checked all the other threads regarding the same or alike issues. But couldn't find anything that would halp me.

Exchange 2010 Database Not Fully Restored

I performed the following steps to back up and restore our Exchange 2010 database:

1. Ran backup of Mailbox folder (containing .edb file) and log folder (containing E00...*. files) using Windows Server Backup utility to USB drive.

2. Restored files to new server using Windows Server Backup utility.

3. Determined database was in a dirty shutdown state with eseutil.

4. Repaired database with eseutil /r (it said operation completed successfully)

5. Verified database was now in a clean shutdown state.

6. Ran NewMailboxDatabase command via the Exchange Shell.

7. Mounted the database in the EMC, which succeeded.

However, when I look at the "disconnected" mailboxes, I only see 3 mailboxes.  There should be over 100.  I verified the size of the database is correct, so I'm not sure why only 3 mailboxes are showing.

Any ideas?

ECP Page not loading after installing SP3 on Exchange 2010 CAS&HUB Server

I have installed SP3 on my Exchange CAS Server after that OWA was not working, hence I have reset owa, ecp, ews, oab, autodiscover & active sync virtual directory from EMC. After that OWA is started working.

But While accessing ECP , content is not loading properly. I have reset virtual directory of ecp 2 times but problem is still same.

Users Restriction

Hi,

I am using Exchange 2010. We need to restrict 4 or 5 users to not accept emails from external domains like yahoo.com or gmail if recipient on this email is more than 7 users.

Is it possible?

Cross forest migration, linked mailbox, how to keep attributes like Company

0

Hi,

We are just about to start migrating users from Exchange1 on Domain1.com, to Exchange2 which lives on Domain2.com.

We are keeping Domain1.com and we will be using linked mailboxes.

Using prepare-moverequest.ps1 and new-moverequest, it gets most of the way to being fine. I get a disabled mailbox on Domain2 and the user in Domain1 can login to their mailbox on Exchange2.

However, not all attributes get copied over, including Company filed, which we would like to use to set default SMTP.

What is the best way to deal with copying data over like company field?

Are there switches to achieve this with prepare-moverequest, new-moverequest or update-recipient?

Or do I have to use something like ADMT (which ideally I don't want to, it would add an extra step).

If this is not part of the moverequest stuff, is there a standard powershell command where I can get data from one user and add it to the other?

Thanks - James

Exchange 2010 multiple meeting acceptance emails

0

Currently we have resource calendars in use (3 conference rooms). Our main conference room gets the most use (Conference Cygnus).  Our main weekly staff meeting has experienced the most issues, but I also have a weekly IT meeting that has the same issues. Here are some problems that have been happening and happen most when we do any kind of editing of single events in the series.

  • Multiple event notifications sent to all or some users in the organizations. (we’ve seen as much as 100 email notifications to a single user for the same meeting update)
  • Some users reporting that once an update is sent (single update) and they select accept it will delete the entire series.
  • Vanishing meetings in general

Note that the meetings are not using distribution lists and that the resource calendar has the booking attendant active for ease of management.  The “conference cygnus” only needs to be invited for it to auto accept or decline the meeting.

Exchange 2010 SP 1 version 14.01.0218.015

We have a few admins that have full access to some executives calendars as well as Full Permission on the resource calendar, something I had to add in order for them to add and delete events manually if needed.

All users have IPhones or IPads.

I have looked at the headers and the extra messages all have a different message ID.

Any Ideas?

Speeding up the Get-MailboxStatistics cmdlet for ~19K mailboxes.

Greetings,

While this is partially a PowerShell scripting question, I am posting it in the Exchange 2010 forum because the issues I believe center around the Get-MailboxStatistics itself, and the speed of my scripts in Exchange 2010 (possibly due to the additional overhead in remote PowerShelling).

In my Exchange 2010 system we have ~19,000 mailboxes spread accross multiple DAG nodes, and ever since we upgraded from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010, gathering all of the mailboxes and then gathering their statistics takes almost twice as long. For example a script that used to take ~45 minutes in Exchange 2007, takes about an hour and a ½.

The issue I am running into when clocking core aspects of a mailbox data gathering scripts is that the Get-MailboxStatistics seems to be taking an excessively long period of time, and I am hoping someone can help me figure out a way to speed up the process.

For example this is a boiled down script I created, where I ripped out a ton of other things and just focused on the Get-Mailbox and Get-MailboxStatistics commands:

$BaseOU="Customers"

# Capture the date and time in a variable using the "Fri 11/01/2010 6:00 AM" format.

$DateTime=Get-Date-Format"ddd MM/dd/yyyy h:mm tt"

# Select a single domain controller to use for all the queries (to avoid mid AD replication inconsistencies)

#  from the environment variable LOGONSERVER - this ensures the variable will always be dynamically updated.

$DomainController= ($Env:LogonServer).Substring(2)

# Set the loop count to 0 so it can be used to track the percentage of completion.

$LoopCount= 0

# Start tracking the time this script takes to run.

$StopWatch1=New-ObjectSystem.Diagnostics.Stopwatch

$StopWatch1.Start()

# Get the mailbox info for all IHS customer mailboxes.the storage limit is Prohibit send or mailbox disabled

Write-Host-ForegroundColorGreen"Beginning mailbox gathering. In a short while a progress bar will appear."

$GatheredMailboxes=Get-Mailbox-ResultSize:Unlimited-OrganizationalUnit"ADDomain.com/$BaseOU"-DomainController$DomainController |Select Identity,DisplayName,ProhibitSendQuota

Write-Host-ForegroundColorGreen"Mailbox data gathering is complete."

$StopWatch1.Stop()

$StopWatch2=New-ObjectSystem.Diagnostics.Stopwatch

$StopWatch2.Start()

Foreach ($Mailboxin$GatheredMailboxes) {

   # Show a status bar for progress while the mailbox data is collected.

   $PercentComplete= [Math]::Round(($LoopCount++/$GatheredMailboxes.Count* 100),1)

   $CurrentMBDisplay=$Mailbox.DisplayName

    Write-Progress-Activity"Mailbox Data Gathering in Progress"-PercentComplete$PercentComplete`

       -Status"$PercentComplete% Complete"-CurrentOperation"Current Mailbox: $CurrentMBDisplay"

#Get the mailbox statistics for each mailbox gathered above.

   $MailboxStats=Get-MailboxStatistics$Mailbox.Identity |Select StorageLimitStatus,TotalItemSize

    # Proceed only if the the mailbox statistics show the storage limit is Prohibit Send or Mailbox Disabled.

    # Write-Host "Stats for"$Mailbox.DisplayName"are Limit ="$MailboxStats.StorageLimitStatus"and Size ="$MailboxStats.TotalItemSize.Value.ToMB()"MB."

}

# Calculate the amount of time the script took to run and write the information to the screen.

$StopWatch2.Stop()

$ElapsedTime=$StopWatch1.Elapsed

Write-Host"he mailbox gathering took"$ElapsedTime.Hours"hours,"$ElapsedTime.Minutes"minutes, and"$ElapsedTime.Seconds`

   "seconds to run."

$ElapsedTime=$StopWatch2.Elapsed

Write-Host"The foreach loop took"$ElapsedTime.Hours"hours,"$ElapsedTime.Minutes"minutes, and"$ElapsedTime.Seconds`

   "seconds to run."

Using the two stop clocks, I was able to see that the Get-Mailbox of all mailboxes took ~9 minutes. That isn’t lightning fast, but it isn’t unreasonable.

The issue comes in where the Foreach loop with the Get-MailboxStatistics took ~53 minutes, and I am sure some of the mailbox data was cached on the servers from my various tests so it would probably take even longer with a cold run.

I did some digging around and I really couldn’t find anything on how to speed up the Get-MailboxStatistics, and the only thing I found was this link:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverpowershell/thread/9ceefddd-7a59-44ec-8fc0-8de244acb58b

However I am not clear on how moving the Get-MailboxStatistics into the Get-Mailbox syntax (which is odd to me in general) would speed things up if I still have to have a foreach loop to process the data a little bit and add the users to a datatable. That discussion also made think the foreach loop itself is slowing things down but unclear as to how/why if that is true.

Can someone help share some ideas on how to speed up this process? I think there are some other things I could try but I can’t think of them.

Thank you in advance.

Dynamic Distribution Group on HOSTED exchange 2010 not setting up properly

Hi all,

We have a hosted exchange 2010, which prevents us from using the EMC.

I want to create a simple dynamic distribution group for every staff member in the organization but am facing a problem. I use the following command:

New-DynamicDistributionGroup -Organization "organizationname" -IncludedRecipients MailboxUsers -Name "Office"

This appears to work according to shell. In addition,

Get-DynamicDistributionGroup -Organization "organizationname"

DOES come up with "office" as a listing (though the "Managed by" field is empty. Should I care?)

However:

  • sending to that address creates a bounce-back "no such email address"
  • a look in AD shows that the object has been created somewhat incorrectly

It appears that while a group is nominatively created no email address is created attached to it (which should be office@organizationname.com).

I am by no means a shell expert and have been bumping my head for a few days now, any suggestion would be great!

Thanks in advance,

Rodolphe

Why can't I change SMTP addresses?

0

Hi!  I have a user with 2 email addresses associated with their account.  In her account properties, there is a primary address in bold, which is a maiden name, then a second address which is her new/real name.  I want to remove the primary address and make the secondary as her primary.  If I click on the primary address the red X greys out.  Why can't I make this change?

Also, in her active directory account, her email address is specified as the old one (currently the primary one I can't remove).  Would it be as simple as changing this and Exchange updating itself?  Also, Set As Reply is always greyed.

Why can't I manipulate these addresses?

Thanks!

Exchange 2010 SP3 Retention Policies with recovery policies

Hi I am implementing retention polices on our mailboxes with anything in the Inbox and sub folders, deleted items and sent items.

The question I had was I am setting this with delete and allow recovery the DB have the default recovery time of 14 days.  this is the first time we turned this on and the dumpster per DB is 30 GB.  I am worried that it will full up before the 14 day period expires.  Is it recommended to implement this 50-100 mailboxes at a time wait the 2 week period then add the next 100 or so etc.

or is there any other suggestions that may be the best way?

Exchange Management Console very slow to load.

Get-ExchangeCertificate error - Unknown error (0xe0434f4d)

Running "Get-ExchangeCertificate -Server server1" from my local machine. Powershell was launched under alternate credentials - Exchange Administrator for our organization. All PSSnapins are loaded correctly. Getting this error"Get-ExchangeCertificate : The Exchange Certificate operation has failed with an exception.  The error message is: Unknown error (0xe0434f4d)". Running this command from an exchange server2/3/etc works fine. Only breaks when running it remotely from my machine. WinRM, Local Policies configured to contain Exchange Servers and the elevated Exchange Admin accounts. Other Exchange based cmdlets work fine.

Resource Mailbox Not Declining Conflicting Appointments

0
0

Recently upgraded from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.

All of my resource mailboxes are allowing conflicting meeting requests to be scheduled, even though in the window when you are scheduling it, it says "conflicts with another appointment".

Resource attendants are enabled, and the box for "allow conflicting meeting requests" is NOT checked.

Maximum conflict instances is 0, and conflict percentage allowed is 0.

And I am not scheduling any recurring meetings.  If there is a meeting already schedule from 1-2 (for example) and I go on the calendar and schedule another meeting in the same resource from 12:30-2:00 it lets me schedule it, never declines it or anything.

I have looked around a bunch and can't seem to figure out what is wrong, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Getting multiple Mobile device quarantine notices for previously approved devices.

Recently we have started getting multiple notices to the user and to our help desk about a device being quarantined that is not. I've got one user getting them about every 15 minutes. When I use the following powershell this user is not listed

Get-ActiveSyncDevice -filter {deviceaccessstate -eq 'quarantined'} | select deviceid, userdisplayname

i've also had devices show up in the ECP that are not consistant with what shows in the above command and i've been unable to approve them to clear them so I blocked them instead which clears them then I fix them with powershell if they should be approved.

I am at a loss as to where to look and my users are getting annoyed by the spam. I'm about to turn off device quarantine to "fix it" but i'd rather not.

Oh and right now at least these are all iphones

Thanks for any assistance.

Forward Terminated Employee Emails Best Practice

0
0

I'll start off by saying Exchange is not my bread and butter, but it is mine now, so this is my logical thought...

When we have an employee leave and their email needs to be forwarded to a manager or another employee, the current process is to disable/delete their account and add their SMTP address to the person who would now receive their emails. Is this the most logical way to accomplish this? To me it seems like the quickest way, but doesn't allow much flexibility or logic. All actionable rules would need to take place in Outlook of the new receiver, like auto-response, rejection, etc.

I don't know how rampant the SMTP process is through the environment but I can find out via Powershell, I'm sure.

But lets say it happens on a lot of mailboxes...If I create a Transport Rule for each of these instances will the TR's create a lot of extra overhead on the servers having to process the rules? How do others handle this type of task, it has to be pretty common.

Message Tracking - Determing what happens to specific email

Good afternoon all!  I have a situation with a client Exchange 2010 server.  They have a front end/back end exchange setup.  They are running this on Server 2008 R2.  Mail is setup and working great.  They have ONE specific email they receive on a nightly basis.  This email makes it through the front end spam solution, then passes the receive connector.  In the message tracking logs I see the message is received.  It is sent to a distribution group.  Other email that is sent to the distribution group will have a corresponding expand and deliver logs.  This particular email does not have anything further than receive.  No other logs to identify why it is not being delivered or dropped or anything.  I have run the following command to ensure I have the full information:

[PS] C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Scripts>get-exchangeserver | where {$_.isHubTransportServer -eq $tru
e -or $_.isMailboxServer -eq $true} | Get-MessageTrackinglog -MessageId "JD0xIkOsn00024d06@mail.es.netteller.com" | fl

There are no further logs on this message.  For those that will read the delivery status notification.  This message is a bounce back message that they are not receiving.  I did change the Default Properties on the remote domains, so that Allow external out-of-office messages and legacy out-of-office messages is selected as well as under message format: Allow Auto replies, Allow Auto Forward, Allow Delivery Reports, Allow Non-Delivery Reports are also all selected.

I am lost on where to figure out what happens to this email after the receive connector gets it.  Messages normally have other messages that show additional information; however this message just dies there.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
