hello. thanks for taking the time.
I am in need of some clarification in terms of restoring a DAG database in Exchange 2010. we have a 3node DAG and one of the databases need to restored from a few months back to extract some email from a user. From what I read from Symantec and their video tutorial is that you just need to create a Recovery DB and make sure that the Recovery DB name is the same when you specify Destination path in NetBackup.
However when we tried that it created a separate edb file of the database I wanted to recover as well as kept the Recovery database I created ... the Recovery database wasnt overwritten. After some digging I found a blog that said I have name the Recovery database the same name as the original database name... i dont follow because wouldnt that cause 2 databases now with the same name?
Let me draw it out.... pictures make it so much easier... :)
ExchangeDAG01:
MBX-DB01
MBX-DB02
MBX-DB03
need to recover mbx-db03 from a few months ago.
What I used to create Recovery Database:
New-MailboxDatabase -Recovery -Name "RecoveryDatabase" -Server MBX-01 -LogFolderPath "L:\Restore\RecoveryDatabaseLogs"
-the checkbox to overwrite the database is already checked.
-point in time Recovery
However these two sites:
http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/exchange-server-2010-backup-databases-and-restore-rdb
http://blogs.perficient.com/microsoft/2011/02/working-with-exchange-2010-recovery-databases-2/
These sites state that Recovery database name should be the same name as the database I am trying to recover... so should it be:
New-MailboxDatabase -Recovery -Name "RecoveryDatabase" -edbfilepath "D:\RecoveryDatabaseDatabaseMB-DB03.edb" -Server MBX-01 -LogFolderPath "L:\Restore\RecoveryDatabaseLogs"
wouldn't this create 2 mailbox databases with the same name? won't cause conflicts for users when this database is mounted? or having the RecoveryDatabaseDatabase prefix make it different?
thanks for the time and efforts.
