We are running Exchange 2010 in our environment. 2007 is still there with a few mailboxes left on it.
In our primary AD site, we have a CAS array, behind which sites some CAS servers and Mailbox servers.
We have an application that was used in the Exchange 2007 days that makes a MAPI connection to a shared mailbox on the mailbox server.
The application team are wondering if they can make a MAPI connection to a mailbox in 2010. I advised them about the CAS array etc, which they are going to code in...but then I started wondering, theoretically IS it possible to make a MAPI connection to a 2010 mailbox server? I believe Public Folders still work this way?
And, if the mailbox isn't on this server, will the connection be proxied to the mailbox server that does have the active database?
