Change Alias to match username for all users

Hello,

I just bulk created mailboxes for all my staff users. The addresses are based on the alias. However the alias is wrong. Instead of picking up the username like I want it to, it is picking up First Name, Last Name.

I want my email addresses to be based on the username. So Bob Smith would be bsmith@copleston.suffolk.sch.uk and not BobSmith@copleston.suffolk.sch.uk like it is currently showing.

I know you can set the email address policy to use First Initial, Last Name but this won't work either. There are a few users that do have a username of bobsmith for various reasons. (e.g if there is also a Barbara Smith) Also, when we roll out email to students, their usernames are completely different (e.g 05smith for a student called Bob Smith who started in 2005).

Is there a way for the alias to automatically populate with the username? Or for the email address to automatically use the username instead of the alias?

I also now need to change all of the current mailbox aliases to match the usernames... can I do this easily with a script/command?

Best regards

Katrina
