I am about to remove Exchange 2010 from a domain controller. (let the scolding commence...)
We migrated to Google Apps this last summer, so Exchange and its random losing of messages with no explanation or error, is no longer needed.

Just in case someone at some point in the future comes to me and says "OMG I need something from my old Exchange mailbox! You HAVE to help me recover it!" ... I would like to know:
Is there any way to preserve or recover old Exchange 2010 mailbox data, AFTER the user mailboxes are removed, and Exchange uninstalled?
Can I shut down all Exchange services while it is still installed with the mailboxes in place, then make a backup of the offline global mailbox file, and perhaps then somehow recover mailbox data from it at a future time?
