Multisite DAG routing question

We have a two Exchange 2010 (SP1 Rollup 5 v-2) servers participating in a DAG.  Server A is in company HQ and Server B is in an offsite COLO facility for DR purposes.  The link between the locations is a 20MB metro-area link (MAN).  It used to be one flat network.  When it was a flat network the MX record for the company point to the internet connection of Server A, and the DAG routed outbound e-mail through Server B (and subsequently Server B's internet connection) even though both servers were part of the Send Connector in Exchange.  We have recently implemented AD Sites to separate HQ from the COLO to address problems like workstations authenticating to the DC that was in the COLO.  Since this change inbound and outbound SMTP traffic all seem to use only Server A's connection.  The DAG still replicates information to Server B, but since there are no active database copies there, I am guessing that all SMTP traffic is being kept to the local site in which Server A resides.  Is there a way to designate Server B as my "preferred" sending server without removing it from the send connector.  I would like the outbound traffic to leave on that internet connection so I can alleviate some congestion on the HQ's internet connection. I feel like what I am trying to do might be in violation of the spirit of the normal AD Site setup, but I am looking for a way to restore the old setup of mail into Server A and out of Server B under normal operating circumstances.  Thank you for your time.
