Hi,
We successfully configured a 3 servers Exchange 2010 SP1 DAG setup:
- server Exchange3 (Primary DAG member)
- server Exchange4 (Backup DAG member)
- server Exchange6 (witness server with only the Hub Transport role)
We want to use an active/passive scenario. When I shut down one of the DAG member the mailbox database is automatically activated on the other server. I can also do a manual activation. But my LAN Outlook clients arenot automatically redirected to the active server. We do not use any form of Network Load Balancing.
I read somewhere that I need to add a CAS Array with a generic name like exchange.domain.com and change the "RpcClientAccessServer" attribute of the mailbox database to point to this generic name. Then in case of failure of the "primary" server I can change the address of exchange.domain.com in DNS to direct my clients to the active server.
Is this the easiest way to have automatic client switch over ? If yes, where and how do I create the CAS array ? Will I have to recreate the Outlook clients' profiles ?
Thanks.
