Can't remove FullAccess rights currently being given to what appears to be a previously deleted user (because the ACE doesn't exist on the object.)

I recently took over administration of a small Exchange server. We're running Exchange 2010. On one of the users, there is FullAccess currently given to two other users. One is a current user and the other, I think, is a user that was deleted at some point in the past. (I think this about that second user because rather than see a user name in the "for accont" space I see what I think is an SID "S-1-5-21-2002010093-109155476-217568681-1322".) If I try to remove the access for either accounts either using EMC or EMS, I get the same error:

Can't remove the access control entry on the object "CN=John Smith,OU=ServerName,OU=Users,OU=MyBusiness,DC=DomainName,DC=lan" for account "DomainName\usertoberemoved" because the ACE doesn't exist on the object.

I've read the various posts about the issue and can't seem to correct it. Any suggestions? Thanks!
