Deleting ActiveSync Device via OWA?

We had a user who changed their domain user password and forgot that they had an iPad running at home configured with EAS connection.

The iPad keeps locking out their domain user account due it it running with the old password saved in the account settings.

They don't want to wipe the device, but we see that there is an option to delete it by selecting it in OWA options and clicking on the X.

The device was deleted, but it does not appear to break the connection.  It is still continuing to lock out the account 2 hours later.

Is there another step required?  Do we need to delete it using EMC or is there no way to stop this other than a remote wipe or the user physically going to the device and changing the saved password?

As a test, I deleted my phone with OWA, and I can still send a receive e-mail via Exchange Active Sync anyway.  Deleting it does not seem to do anything.
