Exchange 2010 - zero loss of email possible?

I often think about possible scenarios and here is one that I am currently thinking about!  What happens in the event that you lose your storage or a database drive/logs and need to restore from backup.

Traditionally backups are taken overnight of the database and log files.  If the log files during the day are not present due to drive failure or some sort of corruption, when you restore the database from the night before you potentially are open to lose a lot of email as you cannot roll up the days logs into the database.

I have never seen the log drives fail or get corrupt, so it is just a thought.  How do people plan for such an event however small it may be?  I thought about the transport dumpster, but in 2010 the dumpster emails are cleared as soon as they successfully get to the database.

Are there any exchange built in options for storing X number of hours of logs at the HUB level incase of mailbox storage failure?  Will be interesting to hear about it as surely ISPs or mail providers have things in place that look after customer email in the event of a virus attack/corruption/loss of log files?
