I've seen several posts stating that moving the file share witness should be as simple as modifying a couple fields in the Exchange Management Console. However, I added the Exchange Trusted Subsystem group to the local administrators group on the new FSW and I modified the Witness Server and Witness Directory from the DAG properties window in the management console and I received the following error.
The following error(s) occurred while saving changes:
Set-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup
Failed
Error:
File share witness path '\\NewServer.domain.local\DAG1.domain.local' exists, but permissions are not correctly set. Account 'DAG1$' must have full access.
I do realize that I added the Exchange Trusted Subsystem group to the local administrators group AFTER creating the dag which does not follow the documentation here: (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd298065(v=exchg.141).aspx):
"If the witness server you specify isn't an Exchange 2013 or Exchange 2010 server, you must add the Exchange Trusted Subsystem universal security group (USG) to the local Administrators group on the witness server prior to creating the DAG."
If the dag already exists how can I change the location of the FSW to a non-exchange server?
By the way, my setup is 2 nodes (Exchange 2010 SP2 on server 2008 R2) running CAS,HT, and MB roles.
