I have a single exchange 2003 as our only production email server. recently purchased exchange 2010 but it wont allow for an upgrade so I have to standup a new install. Since public DNS is already pointing to our existing exchange and our remote users rpc-http has been configured for their outlook clients I want to use the FQDN and IP of the old email server for the new one.
The OS for the new exchange server has been installed and the server joined to the domain, but I havent installed exchange 2010 yet. Im planning to exmerge all of the pst's from the old exchange 2003 (exch1.domain.com) then dis-join it from the domain with a rename to exch-bk.domain.com & re-name the new exchange 2010 to exch1.domain.com install exchange 2010 then import the exmerged pst's. I have managed exchange 2003 servers but this will be my first installation & migration and Im completely nervous about what I may be missing.
