I work for a fairly large company with several business units in seperate Active Directories with seperate Exchange 2003 - 2010 environments. The goal is to get everyone to one Active Directory forest on one email system. Several of the business units are having pressing email issues and I am tasked with trying to find a short term to make things stable and "seem" like we are one and long term solution to get us all to the new forest.
So I am considering us creating the new central forest, moving the mailboxes only to the new forest to linked mailbox accounts, and for now leave their existing user accounts in the original domains. We have a different team for Active Directory, so I will let them handle eventually moving over the user accounts.
Has anyone used Linked Mailboxes like this to consolidate many Exchange environments or have any other ideas on how they would accomplish this? Does Exchange 2013 have anything to handle this better than 2010?
