Hi All,
Currently we have only one exchange server 2010 RTM in our environment will all roles installed, the person who has deployed exchange server has not created any CAS Array, out existing exchange server is full of capacity and in RAID controller two HD drives are having bad sectors, we thought it is worth of installing new exchange server roles on new hardware with exchange 2010 SP2. we will deploy one mailbox server and one hub/cas server which means we will have two servers virtual
Now the problem is i am confused in some thing, as there is no cas array defined, i am confused in the following (remember i dont want to change any thing in existing server):
1. what if i will create a new CAS Array now create windows nlb and add only one new hub/cas serverand then i will move users, in this case those users who are still in existing exchange will they connect to new CAS servers only or will they connect to old cas server, if they will connect to new cas servers then will they still be able to access outlook, owa etc, do they have to restart their outlook, will their outlook be configured and pointed to casarray or not.
2. What if i will not create the cas array now and i will just deploy the windows nlb and add only one new hub/cas server in the nlb, i will move all the mailboxes and then will shutdown old exchange server, and then will configured CAS Array, in this case when users were moved their outlook will be connected to new cas server name, once i will create the cas array then do i have to ask the users to restart the outlook or it will be done automatically, will the users be disconnected after defining cas array, will we have to reconfigure their outlook by pointing to new cas array or it will be done automatically
3. what is the best way to introduce new hardware over here where there is no CAS array defined,
4. in which of the above method users will have down time
5. in which of the above method users will be disconnected
please help me in this situation.
