Hi folks,
We're in the process of migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. We've already encountered the well documented issues of owners of distribution groups not being able to amend membership and, thanks to the various posts on this forum, I think we've now fixed that specific problem. Now coming up against something else... Users within our organisation were previously able to modify a group's membership via Outlook (due to having relevant security permissions to group's AD object) - I understand from other posts that this is no longer recommended and we should be encouraging the use of ECP. I've had limited success in our testing environment with amending group membership via Outlook (we have a 5000+ group which is pretty much unmanageable - can't even get members to populate - but that's another issue!).
My problem now is I have created distribution groups anew in Exchange 2010 - they are universal distribution groups. I, and other owners, were able to manage membership to these via ECP pretty much consistently several weeks ago. However, when I try to amend groups now via ECP I am presented with an error telling me a user is already a member of the DL. This happens when I try to save any changes whether I'm adding/removing a member, updating owner etc. Clicking help on the errror message suggests Error ID: Ex93E602. I'm certain I was previously able to amend these large groups via ECP. We have been installing UR4 recently and I'm wondering if this has caused this issue?
I've narrowed down the breaking point to 1500 members. i.e. up to an including 1500 members the groups can be managed via ECP. As soon as 1500 is breached then it seems to break ECP (can't remove members etc). Interestingly if membership is currently 1500 and I add a large number (e.g. 20) via ECP I am able to save the change, but the group then becomes unmanagable.
I'll have a job convincing users to switch over to ECP if there is an effective limit of 1500 to distribution group membership.
Wondering if anyone has come across this?
Cheers
Michael
