I have a question aout seting up Exchange redundancy in my newly inherited environemnt.
I have one phyiscal server running all three roles with about 600 mailboxes. (lets call this server 1)
I have an E PRISM spam filter device that my public MX record points to. OWA works externally.
I am setting up another phyiscal server (lets call it server 2) to give me some redundnacy until i migrate to the cloud (in about 6 months)
the phyiscal server is the same spec as my current server with the sames drives space as well I plan to install three roles on this server with and create a DAG group with active copy of the DB. I will not be setting up a NLB cluster (or any other type of load balancing) for the CAS.
This will give me redundancy for the mailbox server role, but how does the redundancy for the CAS and HT role work. if server 1 is shut down, what happens to internal and external mailflow.
do i ahve repoint my E PRISM device and change my public record for the OWA? are these the only changes that ahve to take place.
Are there any other gotchas that i should be prepared for? i will use a non mail server for my witness server.
