Unable to grant Full Mailbox Database Access to Service Account

Hi,

I have installed Exchange 2010 SP2 and am trying to grant full access to an ad user account (without a mailbox) so a service account can update calendars using a third party utility. I have tried a number of powershell scripts to do this but none of them are granted Full Access which I need. I'm sure these worked before so I'm unsure what has changed. Scripts I've tried so far are: -

Get-mailboxdatabase "Mailbox Database " | add-ADpermission -user serviceuser -accessrights genericall

Get-mailboxdatabase Mailbox Database | add-adpermission -user serviceuser -accessrights fullaccess -inheritancetype all

Get-MailboxDatabase -server YourServername | add-adpermission -user ServiceUser -accessRights GenericRead, GenericWrite -extendedrights Send-As, Receive-As -inheritanceType all

When I then try to check the access rights, I still haven't got Full Access. Some suggestions were to restart the AD Topology which I have tried as well as the Exchange Store and System Attendant but these don't work either. I do have a large number of mailboxes but even after waiting over 8 hours, there's still no change

Any ideas?

Regards

Chris

Weird Setup

Not too sure where I should post this but here goes:

I am asked to come into a hotel last week that has two exchange servers;

Number 1:

SBS 2003

exchange server 2003

IIS 6.0

Number 2:

Server 2008R2

Exchange 2010

This person has had all of the mailboxes moved from number 1 to number 2 and then removed the legacy

mailboxes from number 1.

My questions: IIS is still running on #1. Is there a way to point the IIS to the new mailboxes on the #2 server or am I screwed with having to do a total re-install of the exchange and the IIS.  I can still log into the IIS but it does not see any user name or mailboxes..

Any Suggestions

regards

Exchange 2010 Outlook anywhere cannot connect if user is on different site using CAS to CAS proxy

Hi All,

We have two TMG servers configured as a stand alone array acting as a reverse proxy on Site A.
Two CAS/HUB servers and two mailbox servers on Site A.

1 CAS/HUB/MBX on Site B.
1 CAS/HUB/MBX on Site C.

Each site has its own CAS array.  Site B and Site C goes through a WAN link to Site A to access the internet.

However when we migrate users to Site B and Site C, users on the internet cannot use Outlook Anywhere. Active Sync, OWA works fine.

Results of Exchange connectivity analyzer, whats bothering me is it says it passed.

Exchange 2010/Outlook 2007 - No Free/Busy is available for select resource rooms/calendars

Hello,

We're having an issue with folks using Outlook 2007 to schedule appointments/meetings and not being able to see Free/Busy info after a migration from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. We've retained the distribution groups from Exchange 2003/AD 2003 and we'd like to assign a Universal Security Group (which consists of a few hundred people) to be able and view/edit Calendar resources in Outlook/Exchange. This has been an ongoing issue for quite some time, and recently discovered that if individual users are assigned to the resources with permissions, they can see Free/Busy info, but not when the entire Distribution Security group is assigned.

Our questions is, if a Universal Security Group cannot be used to assigned "global" permissions to a resource, what kind of a group can be used to grant permissions all at once instead of individually adding hundreds of users to a resource? Or, is the security distribution group incorrectly migrated from 2003 to 2010?

Please assist in shedding some light on this matter.

Thank you.

Uninstall Exchange 2010 after SP2 Upgrade corruption

Upgrading to SP2 from SP1 stops with errors, the exchange 2010 started to freeze in GUI. However I was able to manage to remove the database in EMS.

When I was about to uninstall in control panel it lead to SP2 Upgrade instead of uninstall. Using setup.com /m:uninstall it says Updates does not exist.

How to uninstall by bypassing SP2 upgrade?

Exchange 2010 Sending and Receiving issues

I have a server running exchange 2010. The other night we had a power failure and our exchange server has not worked since. At first the exchange store wouldn't start and outlook would not open on the client computers. However now that is fixed and outlook opens fine. All the messages are in the inbox and calendars work. I am not able to send or receive mail though. All the exchange services that I can tell need to be started are, I have also tried rebooting the server.

Any ideas on where I should start at?

Exchange 2010 Sending Newsletters?

Hello,

We currently have an SMTP Windows 2008 R2 server that is used to send out newsletters to large number of recipeints (15,000). Occasionally there are issues with the service so we are looking at different options.

Would Exchange 2010 be a good solution or should we look at some third party software. The only function of this server is to send out newsletters and other information to the recipients.

Transport rule to validate recipient email address

Is it possible to create a transport rule (on a non-edgesyncd Edge server) to reject an email if the recipient's email address is in an incorrect format? Specifically, if the domain has no '.' in it, eg test@server

Can this be done using a regex pattern in a rule?

Thanks

Hi,

I setup a test rentention policy with a retention policy tag Type "All other folders in the mailbox",

Age limit for rentention: 60, Action Move to archive.

I assigned this to a testuser.

All items that are older 60 days are moved to the archive, so far so good.

But we don't want that calendar, tasks and notes get moved.

How can I achive this?

Multiple Domains - 1 AD user 2 seperate mailboxes

Currently we have a Windows 2008R2 AD domain AAA.LOCAL with Exchange 2010 hosted domain for BBB.COM fully functional with OWA, AcitveSync etc.

I need to add additional company domain CCC.COM without creating a new separate AD domain and users.

How do I achieve the following or please recommend another way:

  1. User AAA.LOCAL has separate mailboxes and can send and receive from BBB.COM and CCC.COM.
  2. Have separated access to OWA MAIL.BBB.COM and MAIL.CCC.COM

I thought about installing a 2nd exchange server for the new domain only.

I’ve read a lot of posts but not sure which way to go,

Can you please provide detailed configuration?

Free/Busy time, subject, location not showing in Scheduling Assistant when permission granted to a group.

$

I have an Exchange 2010 resource forest and maintain forest trusts to several user forests.  Most of the mailboxes are Linked Mailboxes.

User A, a linked mailbox, changed his calendar permissions to "Free/Busy time, location, and suject" or "limited details" and granted that permission to a mail-enabled security group (universal, security) called OCS.  However, when User B, another linked mailbox and a member of the OCS group, tries to look at the free busy details of User A in Scheduling Assistant, it only shows "Busy".  There are no details.  However, if User B opens User A's calendar in Outlook, they can see the limited details.  So, the permissions appear to be working.  They just don't work from the Scheduling Assistant window in a New Meeting Request.

Also, if User A grants that same permission directly to User B instead of the group, User B can see the details in Scheduling Assistant and when he opens User A's calendar.

To further complicate the matter, I added a mailbox to the OCS group that is a User Mailbox, instead of a Linked mailbox.  The non-linked mailbox can view User A's details in both Scheduling Assistant and when opening the calendar.

Seems like this may be because the members of the group are Linked Mailboxes and thus disabled AD accounts.  But I can't understand why the permissions work properly when trying to open the calendar versus the Scheduling Assistant.  Anyone have a clue?   I appreciate any insight.

Thanks,

DeSha

Symantec fails to backup by indicating there is a corruption

Hi.

I have an Exchange 2010 SP1 environment that appears to be ok, except when Backup Exec runs to backup the Databases it fails with the following:

Backup- \\{DAG NAME}\Microsoft Information Store\{DB NAME}

V-79-57344-65247 - A failure occurred reading an object.

Backup

Writer Name: Microsoft Exchange Replica Writer, Writer ID: {76FE1AC4-15F7-4BCD-987E-8E1ACB462FB7}, Last error: The VSS Writer failed, but the operation can be retried (0x800423f3), State: Stable (1).

Note: The Microsoft Exchange backup was made from the passive copy of the database on server MNZ-DUN-MBX1.

The consistency check of the snapshot for the Microsoft Exchange database Database was successful.

V-79-57344-65247 - A failure occurred reading an object.

WARNING: "\\{DAG NAME}\Microsoft Information Store\{DB NAME}\Database" is a corrupt file. This file cannot verify.

The consistency check of the snapshot for the Microsoft Exchange transaction log Logs ( E02002AB2D3.log - E02002B3748.log ) has failed. You should check for possible data corruption in the transaction log that is online.

The log files then do not get cleared down. These errors appear with all databases and I’ve tried a few things to try and clear it.

I tried forcing Backup Exec to use the active database VSS writer and the problem persists. I moved all databases to one server and have tried both nodes in the DAG and both fail. I tried with circular logging to clear up the log files. I've tried disabling AV scanning. I have moved all users from one Database and have tried eseutil on the effectively empty DB to run the /r switch to ensure it was in a clean shutdown state but this makes no difference.

Is there anything else I should be looking at to verify what the corruption is and ho to go about sorting it.

How do I find the reason for a message SCL value?

$

We are having issues with legitimate emails going to users Junk E-Mail folder. When looking at the message headers I see X-MS-Exchange-Organization-SCL: 5

With default settings SCL values of 4-6 will go to Junk. I don't necessarily want to change this, but I do want to understand why this email, that clearly isn't spam, is being marked with an SCL of 5.

Is there some logging that will show me why? Or something else in the message headers that might explain?

Thanks

Public Folders Missing Exchange 2010

I have been using Microsoft Exchange for about 3 weeks.

I had my public folders but they have now disappeared.

I can see the edb file for them but it does not show up in my database screen to mount.

It shows that I have 2 databases but only one is displayed which is my private store.

The private store points to the name of the public store when I look at the configuration.

How can I mount the public store again?

Meeting is not in Calendar of Meeting Organizer

We have a mixed Exchange Server 2010 and 2003 environment.  We all use Outlook 2007 (SP2).

Users that have been migrated to Exchange 2010 are experiencing the following problem.

1. Use creates a meeting in their personal calendar (not a public folder) and invites attendees.

2. The user "sits" on the unsent invitation for a while (say about 1 hour) - i.e. they leave the item open and unsent ... they get called away or get on the phone for example.

3. The user then sends the meeting and all attendees receive the meeting invite and are able to accept, decline, etc.

4. The meeting does not appear in the "organizer's" calendar

If the user creates the meeting, invites attendees and sends the meeting within a 10 minute interval, then the meeting does appear in the organizer's calendar.

This does not happen to users that are still on the Exchange 2003 server.

This does not happen to users on the Exchange 2010 server that are using Outlook 2010.

Clean mailbox does not work here either.

here are some of the commands I tried:

Get-MailboxStatistics -Database "Mailbox Database" | Where-Object {$_.DisconnectDate -Notlike $NULL} | FL DisplayName, DisconnectDate, MailboxGuid

DisplayName    : Last, First
DisconnectDate : 11/30/2012 2:55:31 PM
MailboxGuid    : 77fe05c2-ded7-496d-af07-5e4f001dd960

Remove-Mailbox -Database "Mailbox Database 0836479555" -StoreMailboxIdentity 77fe05c2-ded7-496d-af07-5e4f001dd960

The mail box is a pain because:

1. cannot open its properites - says it does not exists, but

2. the email is still active in the "All Users" group so it returns non deliverable!

What else can i due to rid off this mail box!?
