Mac 2011 Client can't access Mailbox with "Author" permission

Exchange 2010, issue with Mac 2011 Outlook Client users accessing Calendars they open which they should have access to, but are not seeing the appointments.

I am noticing an issue that I can re-create so far it appears with Mac clients accessing Mailbox users's Calendars where they have "Author" permissions, but no appointments show up and neither does free/busy, it's just blank.

If I grant the Mac 2011 user "Reviewer" permissions, they can access the Calendar and view appointments just fine.

According to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2876443, I understand that "Reviewer"or higher permissions are necessary. My thought is that "Author"is indeed higher than Reviewer, so I am curious as to why these folks can't access those calendars.

And really the goal of all of this is to at least grant those Mac users access to see the Free/Busy availability of another Mailbox user. If the only way is to upgrade, then I guess that's what we'll have to do.

When sending mail in our organization, one user who can send mail to everyone else has troubles sending mail to another specific user.

Example, john@msn.com has trouble sending mail to ron@msn.com

John can send mail to any other users in the msn.com organization, just emails going to Ron get an error

Delivery is delayed to these recipients or groups:
ron@msn.com
Subject: Testing Email
This message hasn't been delivered yet. Delivery will continue to be attempted.
The server will keep trying to deliver this message for the next 1 days, 19 hours and 57 minutes. You'll be notified if the message can't be delivered by that time.

Ron is a new users.  Did I set something up incorrect in Ron's account or would the issue be in John's account?  Other users don't seem to have a problem sending to Ron.

Thanks

Manage Full Access Permission not showing mailbox correctly

When we grant full access permission for User A's inbox to User B, The inbox never appears. However User A's Archive mailbox does appear but it has the same name as User B!  Confusing right?  Let me show you:

So here you can see I have granted Chris.M (User B) Full access permission to Chris.L (User A) inbox.
I have Tested to verify Auto-discover is working using this article:

(Image not allowed until my account is verified)

But when I view Chris M's mailbox I only see his inbox, his archive box, and an additional archive box which when you open it you see that it is actually Chris L's Archive box.

Image not allowed until my account is verified)

Chris L's Inbox never appears.  This Is happening very sporadically for random users. Microsoft initially told me it was related to our Ghost images.... But it happens on brand new machines, OEM imaged machines and Machines distributed through SCCM as well. Cannot figure this out so any ideas will be very much appreciated!!!

I am using Exchange 2010 SP1 on Windows server 2008 R2 with outlook 2010 and OWA.

I am trying to add full access permissions to a user's account. I have tried adding the full access permission through EMC and powershell. Both times the permissions are added without any error msg. But never appear on my outlook or other user's outlook.

I have tried on a lot of  accounts and no luck .

I can set full access permission a few months ago but now can not.

Any help ?? I need to give a lot of filing accounts full access permission to one admin user and now facing trouble.

Multiple failed logins for Activesync devices, but users don't get locked out

Hello, this isn't causing any issues, we are just trying to understand it better.  We are on Exchange 2010.

We've noticed that if a user has a device with a current device partnership with Exchange and forgets to update the password after his AD password changes, he will get locked out after 6 attempts as expected.

However, if he turns on an old device that has his Exchange profile but no current device partnership showing in ECP (we remove stale device partnerships with a script), he will not get locked out with an invalid password.  We see the failed login attempts on the Exchange CAS. In some cases, over 4,000 attempts a day with no lockout.

So what we're wondering is the difference in authentication behavior between when there is an active device partnership for a device and when there isn't.  When there is no existing device partnership, it appears Exchange doesn't even pass those attempts on to a DC since they aren't getting locked out.  But, if they aren't getting to a DC, how can Exchange know the creds are bad?  Sorry for the long post, but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Exchange 2010 Free/Busy very slow

We have a small 100 person office running Exchange 2010 all clients have Outlook 2010.   The problem is it takes about 2 minutes for Free/Busy to display.     I have found if I check "On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, the connect using TCP/IP" then Free/Busy displays as expected.

Searching this forum it seems it would be the other way around.   Is there a way to trouble shoot why TCP/IP is so slow.

Autodiscover works and DNS is working so not sure where else to look..

thanks in advance

OWA Calendar not showing month view in non-IE browsers

$

I've got a user who can't see the Month view on his OWA calendar. He's the only user complaining - Month view loads fine on my Exchange account across all browsers and operating systems.

I can see the Month view on his account when I log in with IE, but not with any other browser, Windows and Mac.

Any ideas? I'm at a total loss here, I've been in and deleted recurring appointments, but nothing else looks out of the ordinary. Everything else works, it just won't load the month view in non-IE browsers and he's the only one affected.

Any clues appreciated, thank you!

SSL certificate error

I just updated an SSL certificate for a client last night and I am not getting a pop up that references the internal host name of the mail server xxx.domain.local, the .local names are no longer allowed in SSL certificates so I had to remove it. How do I change the host name so the SSL certificate no longer looks for the xxx.domain.local host name, It was not added to the SSL certificate when I renewed it.

Enabling Web-based distribution

We're using Outlook 2013 against an Exchange 2010 backend.  It was just reported to me that we see an error when attempting to send/receive with the Global Address List.  In researching, I found that Outlook 2013 does not use Public Folders for OAB.  I noticed my Default Offline Address List was still generating on 2003. I just moved it to an Exchange 2010 server. When I go to Distribution, I tried checking "Enable Web-Based Distribution", then "Add".  The screen sits there  looking for OAB Virtual Directory.  I tried stopping this process and search by name one of the Exchange 2010 CAS servers.  It doesn't find it.  Is there anything else I need to set before I can set Web-based distribution?  Do a right-click "Update" on the Default Outlook Address List?

Trouble with free space on c partition

$

Hi, Exchange Server 2010 was deployed in my production environment four years ago. Unfortunately my colleague made big mistake while preparing virtual machine for Exchange Server 2010 (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) by creating two partitions on same virtual hard disk with only 40 GB of space for C partition. The remaining 400 GB + space of hard disk is used for E partition where mailbox databases and logs reside.

Slowly but surely free space on C partition is getting lower and lower - now it is only 6 GB. I have found IM-Magic Partition Resizer Server Edition tool, tested it on one Windows Server 2008 R2 machine - I have shrunk D partition and moved unallocated space to the left (before D partition) so I was able to extend C partition by consuming that unallocated space.

However I am not sure what is going on under the hood if I would perform the same task on Exchange Server E partition where mailbox databases and logs reside nor whether end users would be affected - if E partition would be locked as if databases are dismounted for very long period of time that might be bad scenario.

Moving Exchange databases and logs to newly created partition is another solution but not preferrable one if I can accomplish my task using softwares like IM-Magic Partition Resizer Server Edition tool.

disable direct booking in calendar after migration from 2003 to 2010

Hi,

We recently migrated our room mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.
Before migrating we disabled the autoaccept settings from within Outlook.
Afterwards we configured these room mailboxes with autoaccept via powershell.

Booking is ok, but we still have users booking meetings directly into the calendar.
Is there a way to disable this?
What I do see is that the default permission on the calendar is set on "author"

We'd like to disable the possibility for users to use direct booking, and only allow them to book via a meeting request (and adding the room)

Legal hold and separate archive mailbox

Hey guys,

We need to enable legal hold indefinitely for a group of users.  We also have archive mailboxes for these users and data moves to the archive mailbox through retention policies.  So my questions are:

Do we only enable legal hold on the primary mailbox or does it also get enabled on the archive mailbox?

Also, when messages are moved to the archive mailbox using retention policies, are those messages removed from the primary mailbox and then only live in the archive mailbox?  Meaning the deleted, but not purged, messages we are protecting.  I ask because I am wondering if storage will continue to grow for the primary mailbox or not.

Thank you!

Kevin

Exchange 2010 - Backup over interface dedicated

$

Hello Guys,

I have an Exchange environment like this:

  • SERVER-MB-01: 10.220.46.40 - Mailbox Role
  • SERVER-MB-02: 10.220.46.41 - Mailbox Role

Two Network adapters:

  • LAN - PROD (MAPI and Replication) 10.250.53.22
  • LAN - BKP (Backup Network) 10.220.46.40

I have an DAG environment like this:

Get-DatabaseAvailability

  • DAG1 - Member (SERVER-MB-01, SERVER-MB-02)

Get-DatabaseAvailabilityNetwork

  • DAG1\DAGNETWORK01 - 10.220.44.0/22,Partitioned

MapiAccessEnabled  : False
ReplicationEnabled : False
IgnoreNetwork      : False
Identity           : DAG1\DAGNETWORK01
IsValid            : True

  • DAG1\Production - 10.250.53.0/24,Up

MapiAccessEnabled  : True
ReplicationEnabled : True
IgnoreNetwork      : False
Identity           : DAG1\Production
IsValid            : True

I use the Netbackup tool to perform Exchange backup that is on my backup network, I am trying to add the backup ip in the DAG for the backup to be able to identify the name GIMBADAG, Im using the CMdlet below:
Set-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup -Identity DAG1 -DatabaseAvailabilityGroupIpAddresses 10.250.53.24,10.220.46.42
Where 10.250.53.24 is the production IP to dag1 and 10.220.46.42 is the backup ip to dag.

My problem is: By the production IP this works fine, but when I try to set up the backup IP does not working, it does not add on the failover cluster. My workaround was manually add the IP 10.220.46.42 on the network adapter as an additional ip on server SERVER-MB-01, but when the server is shut down I lose communication with the backup network and the cluster does not direct backup IP to another node.

Someone can help me with that? where I am missing?

Thank you

Domain Controllers Being Used By Exhange

How do I set which Domain Controller and Global Catalog is being used by Exchange 2010?

I have two Sites set up in my Domain, with an Domain Controller in each site running Exchange 2010.  The first Domain Controller is also present in the Default site as well, and it is a Global Catalog.  Each Exchange server is also a Global Catalog.  The domain replication is set to every 15 minutes and working properly.  The two sites are on different subnets and I can ping each server from any of the servers.

The issue I have is when checking the Exchange Management Console, under the Server Configuration > Client Access > ServerName properties > System Settings tab, each of my Exchange server uses the OTHER one as the Domain Controller and Global Catalog being used by Exchange.

There is only the one server listed, and it is the one from the other site!  How can I make the Exchange server use ITSELF as the DC and the GC being used by Exchange?

PLEASE HELP!

Hybrid Deployment - Room Mailbox

We have a hybrid deployment between Exchange 2010 sp3 and Office 365. Currently we are just testing hosted email so we only have 25 users on the online side, but these users are unable to use the Room mailboxes on the Exchange side, it just adds the items onto the calendar as tentetive and does not complete the request.

The free/busy status is working both ways and I've tried setting one of the rooms to 'set-CalendaProcessing -ProcessExternal MeetingMessages: $true' with no luck. The room's must stay on the Exchange side, any ideas as to what I should be looking for?

Thanks.

Issue on who can add membership on groups

$

We have some distribution group where not only the manager (managedBy) and co-owners can manage the membership.

ManageBy is set to one or more managers

MemberJoinRestriction                  : Closed
MemberDepartRestriction                : Closed

Groups have a value in ArbitrationMailbox  (systemMailbox...)

Some users who are not managers can add or remove membership.  we have at least 7 groups with issue.

We compare to some other groups and it looks like the membership approval is grey out when the arbitrationmailbox is empty.  Is it normal?

How can we validate why some user can manage membership?

Autodiscover for New Exchnage Server

Hi All,

We have recently upgraded our Exchange from 2003 to 2010 in one Site, where we have purchase new Certificate with SAN which contain Autodiscover.mydomain.com, webmail.mydomain.com and our Server hostname. Current scenario is that we have one exchange 2010 in UK location and one exchange 2003 in Delhi Location in same organisation and having same email address policy. Now we want to upgrade our Delhi Exchange 2003 with Exchange 2010. My query is that we have different webmail URL like webmaildelhi.mydomain.com for our Delhi Users so how I will configure the Autodiscover URL for Delhi Users, what will be the Autodicsover URL for our Delhi users.

Thanks

Exchange Server 2010 Recovery

I have a server running Exchange 2010 on 2008 R2 as a Domain Controller that I recently ran windows updates on (4 months worth) and afterword it would no longer boot.  It would get to the point were you could see the cursor and then just restart.  I tried everything I could think of but I could not get it to work.  Now I have reinstalled 2008 R2 on that server and I am trying to recover Exchange 2010 and Active Directory.  The databases for both of these were installed on a separate SSD drive on the server.  Is there is some way to recover them?

Unfortunately I do not have a backup that will help at all.  The portable USB drive I used is also DOA.

The active directory information is fairly small and I wouldn't mind recreating it, however the exchange database is critical.

I can't just copy over the old exchange data files from the backup I made of the server after it wouldn't boot can I?  Is there any way to recover any data from the files on the SSD?  Can any of the mailbox data be extracted from the old exchange database file?

Any help at all would be appreciated.

Exchange ActiveSync Logs - AttachmentName

$

Hi,

I have multiple entries similar to the following in my logs:

User=changed&DeviceId=blah&DeviceType=blah&Cmd=GetAttachment&AttachmentName=41:3879:1

My question is around the AttachmentName parameter. I would like to be able to view the actual Attachment Name as it is displayed to the user (attachment.jpg). Is there somewhere where this information is recorded for correlation, or do I have to make an amendment to mailbox policy setting to log this information in future?

Thanks in advance!
