Transport rules only gets applied once to emails on Exchange 2010

$

Hi,

I have a mail flow in which any email sent - goes through a mail loop between my Exchange 2010 environment and another mail server before being sent off to the final recipient. I have a transport rule that applies a header to the email but I realised the transport rule only executes once despite the fact that the mail goes through my Exchange environment twice i.e. when sending to my external mail server and when the external mail server sends back to exchange before being sent to the final recipient.

Is the default behaviour of Exchange 2010 to apply the transport rule only once to emails? In >= 2013, the transport rule executes every time the email goes through the Exchange environment.

Thank you.

What I did so far: checked the MRS proxy in all the CAS servers and it is turned on. then tried to modify the web.config file and made the dataimport time to 50 minutes but it did not work.

Tried to move the sameuser mailbox to another database inexchange 2010 and it also did not help

Does "x-ms-exchange-organization-rules-execution-history" show the number of times a trasport rule was applied?

I recently enabled Pipeline tracing on my Exchange 2010 and I am curious about the x-ms-exchange-organization-rules-execution-history in the headers of the emails in my tracking folder. If a transport rule is applied to an email twice, does it appear in the emailx-ms-exchange-organization-rules-execution-history header value twice?

DNS Conditional Forwarding and Email Stuck in Queue Viewer

$

Hello,

My company (@abc.com) is in the process of merging its operation with another one (@xyz.com) and both are Microsoft shops with Exchange 2010 SP3.
The 2 networks are linked by an IPSEC tunnel.

We set up DNS conditional forwarding on each side.
In @abc.com network, we conditionally forward all DNS @xyz.com hostname request to @xyz.com internal DNS Server
In @xyz.com network, we conditionally forward all DNS @abc.com hostname request to @abc.com internal DNS Server

We then allow TCP/UDP 53 to flow through the IPSEC tunnel.

After that, we found out that in @abc.com, when we try to send email to someone@xyz.com, the emails are all stuck in the queue viewer of the Edge server with no error code.

1) In @abc.com, I went to the Edge server, in EMC / Edge Transport / Properties / External DNS Lookups, the DNS servers are all valid external DNS servers.  I did NSLOOKUP on the Edge server and was able to resolve external @xyz.com nicely.

2) I turned on verbose for Protocol Logging of the Send Connectors but the SMTPSend file does not record anything stuck in the queue.

3) I have a feeling that the Edge Server disregards the External DNS lookups and go straight to the conditional forwarder to get this the internal MX record of @xyz.com instead.  Because internally @xyz does not have any MX record and so it was therefore stuck in the queue.

Any thoughts?

I have been trying to setup an email account (Exchange 2010 hosted internally) on an iPhone 7 but I keep getting the following error message:

I am able to use Outlook Web App to access emails externally but can't configure the account on a mobile device. Exchange ActiveSync is enabled for all users.

IOS 13 - Return of the IOS 6.1 Problem Quickly Filling Exchange Log Files?

$
0
0

Remember the issue back in 2012-2013 where devices using IOS 6.1 would rapidly fill Exchange Server logs?

Like Poltergeist, they're back.

Upgraded two iPhones and an iPad yesterday to IOS 13.1 and IPadOS 13.1. Suddenly the Exchange log files filled up within 3 hours, where they never fill up during the course of a day. We run a Veeam backup each evening which also resets the logs, but they're now filling up within hours before the evening's backup can run.

Short of denying our Apple users of syncing with the Exchange Server (not an option), what else can we do?

querying tracking log messages by sender doen't show results

Hi all,

when querying for messages sent by specific sender in our domain using message tracking tool while the input is

sender :X@mydomain.com  server :srvhc01 (one of my hubcas server ) ,the tracking log doesn't show any results

although the message of the sender was received by that server srvhc01 ,I can view the logs of the mesages in programfiles/microsoftlexchangeserver/v14/transportroles/logs/messagetracking of server (srvhc01)

when querying for messages sent by specific sender in our domain using message tracking tool while the input is

sender :X@mydomain.com  server :srvhc02 (one of my hubcas server )

it display the result of all messages sent by that sender this in case all the messages was received by srvhc02

this our topology

I have 4 exhcange servers with exchange 2010 SP1

srvhc01 & srvhc02 load balanced cas array and run hub role

srvmbx01 & srvmbx02 have mailbox role and are dag members to dag-group-1

Forwarding Emails

Hi

We need to forward email to a legal counsil. Which is easy and I have set it up. But, is there a way to let the person know that this email that is coming to his account was from that particular email. Some kind of location within the mail when it gets forwarded that it says "This mail is from this mailbox".

Thanks

ECP not working

Hi,

Since several months, the ECP in a customer Exchange 2010 doesn't work correctly. When I try to access some functions, it works well, for example, User & groups, Mailboxes, show the list of maiboxes. But if I press, for example, distribution groups, I get a pop up message with an alert "Sorry, we're having trouble processing your request at the moment, please try again in a few minutes'. And in Application event viewer I get the following error:

Dear All,

Currently we have Hybrid Exchange Organization running on Windows 2008R2 with Exchange 2010 SP3 with latest RU.

Now due to EOSL of Windows 2008R2, we need to upgrade Hybrid Exchange 2010 running on Windows 2008R2 to Exchange 2010 on Windows 2012.

Can someone shed some light on it.

Any help really appreciated.

Upgrading from 2010

So my new company is currently on Exchange 2010 CU8 and they want me to upgrade them to either 2013 or 2016. I am fine doing either but they are not so keen on getting their current environment to SP3 as it poses a huge risk for them.

This environment has not been well maintained at all, no CU's in over 6 years, OS patching that was months behind. They also set up applications and relays to point to one server even though they have LB's with a VIP already.

They have asked me to find a way to minimize the risk and see if I can avoid upgrading to SP3 even though SP3 CU5 is needed for migration to 2013 and later is needed for migration to 2016.

So, my only suggestion is to third party the move(copy), not really a migration as much as it is a copy to a new environment.

With that being said, my question is can I stand up an Exchange 2013/2016 environment in our domain even though there is a Exchange already there? I am just trying to find solutions and I keep hitting road blocks..

How to remove folder from shared mailbox by powershell?

Hi all,

i need to solve, how to delete folder from shared mailbox by powershell. We need to manage shared mailboxes by our "in house" system, which calls some scripts and powershell command. We are able to create some folder in shared mailbox, set permission, but we are not able to remove this folder in shared mailbox. Did you solve this type of action? I found some topic, where people use EWS, but we would like to have all in powershell. Do you have any idea how to achive that?

Thanks D.

Bug with Windows patch kb4519976 affects Exchange's ability to create folders and search

$

Hi,

We currently run Exchange 2010 Sp3 Rollup 24 on Windows 2008 r2.  We recently deployed windows patches but not exchange patches to our exchange 2010 servers and right after about a day later we have users complained about that search no longer work in non-cached mode and user's could not create/delete/or change a folder in outlook. I checked the search indexing and it is working and the indexing seems to be working on the exchange end.

I then rebooted our exchange environment, I was initially able to search and create folders in outlook but next morning we start receiving complaints from users that we can no longer search and some users can't create/delete folders in outlook.

Fortunately, I deployed patches other exchange servers 2 weeks earlier and upon some troubleshooting we found out that it has the older kb4516065 patch and not the kb4519976 patch.  On the 2nd night I uninstalled the newer kb4519976 patch and installed the older kb4516065 patch and we have not received complaints ever since.

I wanted to call microsoft about this but my company is too cheap to pay the incident fee to do so.  I know that Windows 2008r2 and exchange 2010 is going out of support soon, but I wanted to let you know that there is a problem.

Hello I have an Exchange 2010 deployment. I can successfully connect to the the IMAP4 Service and get a Reply:  * OK The Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 service is ready.

But when i use the syntax 01 login username@domain.com password . I receive 01 BAD Command received in Invalid state.

What could be the possible cause of this error since the service is 100% up.

Thanks.

Public Folder Permissions Problem

$

Hello

We are running Exchange 2010 14.03.0468.000 (SP3 UR29) running on Server 2008R2 (also running the latest patches).  Our users run Office 2013 Professional Plus with the latest patches.

We've have various Public Folders and use permissions to restrict access to them.

I have added a user as Publishing Editor to one Public Folder that has multiple sub-folders.  The user also has Publishing Editor permissions on each sub-folder.

Sometimes when the user attempts to move an email from the root folder to a sub-folder:

> A copy remains in both the Sub Folder and the Root Folder.  Other users can see both the original and the copy left in the root folder, they can subsequently move or the delete the copy without issue
> The user gets a message saying "Unknown Error".
> The user cannot delete any emails in the root or sub-folders.

I am unsure what to do, all users have "Publishing Editor" permissions, the folder has been in use for quite some time.  The problem happens (seemingly) randomly and affects only one user.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Many thanks

Problem sending to yahoo just from exchange edge

$

Hi,

a SMTP server gets emails from internal clients and then sends them to exchange edge, The SMTP server is allowed as an open-relay receiver (IP there, set to anonymous)

Reverse is ok, SPF is ok, ports are good and sending to any domain works well except yahoo!

When making the next hub after internal SMTP pointed to a Mdaemon server it is fixed and mails go to yahoo with no problem. Unfortunately nothing in exchange tracking logs

Mails are stuck in queue as "active" or "ready" and this is what I see in text logs and also in GUI

GUI: 10I: NTS:

Text logs: 10I: NTS: ,Originating,,192.168.41.10,172.24.64.11,

And last to say, I've no edge subscription. Hub sends to the mentioned SMTP server (to apply some policies) and SMTP sends to the edge and as I mentioned all domains working except Yahoo

And there is no NDR from yahoo to dig it more

I'm not sure but I think maybe the open relay from SMTP to edge server (although it is internal)  changes some properties of SMTP packets or mail which makes Yahoo not to accept it. I donno ...

Any help appreciated.

Plan your migration now! Exchange 2010 Reaches End of Life on *October 13th, 2020*

################################

September 2019 update:

Microsoft Extending End of Support for Exchange Server 2010 to October 13th, 2020

################################

Be aware that Exchange 2010 will reach end of life (unsupported) in January 2020.

Please see this article for further detail:

Exchange Server 2010 End of Support is (Still) Coming

Additional Advice:

  • If you are here looking for help setting up Exchange 2010, you should instead plan on deploying a supported version of Exchange Server, such as Exchange 2013, 2016 or 2019 (or Exchange Online).
  • If you are using Exchange 2010, you should plan your migration as soon as possible. Microsoft's Exchange Deployment Assistant can help you build a project outline:https://aka.ms/ExDeploy
  • You should treat this deadline seriously. Exchange is highly visible platform and usually published to the internet. After it reaches end of life, attackers who have been sitting on exploits will know they can attack with impunity, as Microsoft will no longer be patching or otherwise supporting the product.
  • Visit https://aka.ms/Exchange2010EndOfSupport for additional information.
