While troubleshooting some performance issues reported by users, I have found that our Exchange 2010 server does not have an SCP record in AD. I have searched for the best way to create the SCP record but have found nothing that gives me confidence in the approach. A couple points of interest with this issue:
1) The Exchange server was not added to the AD Sites list. I have manually entered it but the attributes are mostly shown as <not set>
2) In the SERVICES section of AD Sites and Services, under Microsoft Exchange, the domain name, 'Exchange Administrative Group', 'Advanced Security', server name, 'Information Store', 'Microsoft MTA', and 'Microsoft System Attendant' icons are all generic and do not show as typical folder icons. There is no information associated with these entries.
3) There is an entry under 'Administrative Groups' for the old Exchange 2003 server that has been decommissioned.
I hope this makes sense. My two questions are as follows:
1) How should I create an SCP record for the Exchange server?
2) How can I clean up the Services entries so that the icons appear correctly?
Thanks,
Joe
