We are in the process of migrating from exchange 2003 to exchange 2010. After initial tests, I migrated the IT department over to the 2010 server. The helpdesk (who are members of domain admins and have always had full permissions to manage shared calendar and shared resource calendars as well as update distribution lists from within Outlook 2010), are having problems accessing the shared resource calendars to setup permissions as well as update distribution lists from within Outlook.
When changing distribution lists they receive an error: "Changes to the public group membership cannot be saved. You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object"
When accessing some calendars they receive a similar message while other calendars they can open the properties box, but the permissions tab is not available at all
My account is able to access the calendars and permissions. My email account is a "domain users" only while my windows login account is not only a domain admin, but also an enterprise admin. I was able to add a specific helpdesk individual name to one calendar and make that person a publishing editor and they were able to gain access to the permissions of the calendar. But with several employees, and even more calendars and shared resources to deal with, there has to be a more global fix for this.
The helpdesk individuals accounts live on the Exchange 2010 server. All calendars, shared resources and distribution lists all live on the Exchange 2003 server still.
