I was asked to come in and complete a project for someone.
The scenerio is that they have a working Exchange 2k3 server - a new Exchange 2k10 server was built and and a swing migration was planned.
Before the migration of mailboxes occured their tech thought they should goto 365. So he put a Federated server in for SSO. He then tested if he could move boxes to the 365 cloud and was successful.
Now comes me - they have changed their requirements and want a hybrid system in which they can have some mailboxes on Exchange 2010 and some on 365.
Keep in mind that they never migrated anything and while Exchange 2010 can see all the mailboxes when a local move request is asked for the only option is 365 and not the Exchange 2010 mailstore which is there and mounted.
First thought is to remove the Exchange 2010 server leave the Federated Server and start the migration over. Once that is completed then add in the 365 connector and move the mailboxes to the cloud that he wants to and leave the others on the Exchange 2010.
Is there a better way in which to be able to see the store within Exchange 2010 as an option to move from Exchange 2003, and leave the 365 option as well? Or am I SOL and need to start over?
Any insight would be great -
