Is this possible?

Mailbox Content Report - Exchange 2010 SP1

$

Hello,

A colleague came to me today with a request for a report to be generated against a shared mailbox his teams uses.

Basically he wants a report in .csv format of all the email contained within the inbox and subfolders, so that he can perform an analysis of the emails, and list them in a spreadsheet with the following headings "From, Subject, Received, Size"

The first place I looked was the "Get-MailboxFolderStatistics" within EMS, but soon found that this cmdlet would only give me folder stats - obviously, but I'm struggling to see where I could get the information required -i.e. go a level deeper and report on mailbox content.

The only feasible way I can find of getting the report he requires is to export the mailbox contents to csv, folder by folder, using Outlook 2010's Import/Export function.

Any help you give on this query would be greatly appreciated

Many Thanks

Matt

How to whitelist a domain using a wildcard

Would someone please tell me how to go about whitelisting a domain in Exchange 2010 that has the form as follows:

abc.def.domainname.com

where I want to accept anything prior to domainname.com

For example I want to use a wildcard to accept any of the following using one entry in the whitelist if possible

abc.def.domainname.com
fed.cba.domainname.com
123xyz.domainname.com
domainname.com

Thank you

Exchange 2010 global address list not updating

$

GAL is not updating unless updated manually, I add new users, hide an inactive user from exchange address lists, or modify (change username for user) wait 24 hrs and longer and address book in all modes, OWA, cached/uncached does not reflect the changes. If I manually do the following procedure the gal updates, but next time I make a change in the GAL same problem happens.

step 1: Update the global address list
setp 2: run the following command in EMS->  get-mailbox | set-mailbox -applymandatoryproperties
step 3: restart the system attendant service
step 4: Update the offline address Book
step 5: restart the exchange file distribution service
step 6: download offline address book without "download changes since last send/receive"

This used to work correctly and the only thing I can think of that may be the cause is I setup HTTP Redirect at one point to troubleshoot something and then unsetup the redirect and deleted the web.config the http redirect created.

Any help would be appreciated.

MSExchange ActiveSync Event ID 1016 after Cross Forest Migration from Exchange 2007 to 2010

Hi all,

i have here a big Problem with ActiveSync (Mobile Devices) after the Cross forest Migration from Exchange 2007 to 2010:

We install a new Forest with 2 Domain Controllers and 4 Exchange 2010 SP2 Servers.

All Servers where Virtual on ESXi 5

2 Servers have CAS and HUB Rooles and the CAS Array with NLB is configured.

The Mailbox Servers where configured with DAG Group and 5 Databases.

Outlook, Outlook for Mac, Mac Mail and OWA working fine.

But we have still problems with ActiveSync.

The Devices cannot connect to Exchange Server and say that they can not Autenticate to the Server or cannot connect to the Server.

In the Event Log i found the Event ID 1016 every minute witch say:

Exchange ActiveSync has encountered repeated failures when it tries to access data on Mailbox server [MAILBOX2.xxxx.edu]. It will temporarily stop making requests to the Mailbox server for [60] seconds to reduce load on that server. This delay may occur if the Mailbox server is overloaded. If this event is logged frequently, review the Application log on this server and the Mailbox server noted above for other events that could indicate the root cause of performance problems.

RBAC Full Mailbox Access

$

Good Afternoon,

I have a Universal Security Group that I have assigned myself to, i want anyone assigned to this group to be able to open any mailbox in our environment for any employee. I want to manage this in RBAC. I added the group as a member of a group with "MailRecipient" and "MailRecipientCreation", but that doesn't seem to be giving me the ability to open mailboxes.

How would I accomplish this in RBAC?

Thanks

simply retention policy to keep mail in mailboxes 90 days then move to archive...how?

Hello All,

We are running Exchange 2010 Ent SP2 on Windows 2008 R2 SP1. We are an Enterprise Agreement Client so all users are running Office 2010 Pro Plus, so online archiving is available to us.  We would like to implement some very simple retention policies. Basically we want to keep everything in their mailbox for 90 days then move it to their archive. Sounds pretty simple, obviously  too complicated for me. To make it even easier we do want to allow users to set personal tags. That’s right everyone, initially will get the same policy applied.

I have read many links like http://blogs.technet.com/b/ianhamer/archive/2009/12/04/curious-about-exchange-2010-retention-policies.aspx and this one http://exclusivelyexchange.com/exchange-2010-retention-policies/ and am no closer to understand what I am doing. Can someone recommend another links(s) so I can read more.  I do not think we are being that complicated, guess I need a few more pointers.

TIA

Jim

How Exchange 2010 (or 2013) parses ICS files

$

Hi All,

When an application sends a meeting invite (in ICS format) either the Outlook client (using Exchange 2010 or 2013) or OWA see it as meeting invite; ie its just a plan email.

Are there rules as to how the file has to be presented for it to appear correctly? An invite from Gmail looks okay. Thanks,

Craig

Exchange 2010 Proxy Address - MRS:username@MRS

$

I had a question come up today because an iPhone started sending new messages fromusername@MRS vs displayname@domain.com.  We changed his email display name back on the phone and everything was fine until I started digging.  On his AD account a Proxy Address I never saw before was listed under MRS and contained theusername@MRS address.

A quick check revealed 37 of 1300+ mailboxes in my environment had this MRS proxy address.  I did a bit more research and saw it might be related to mailbox replication service but the affected users are on spread among different databases and none have been moved in over a year.

Can anyone shed some light on what this MRS proxy address is doing and how it appeared?  I'd prefer to remove it from the affected accounts.

Exchange 2010 DAG replication network 445 traffic going out wrong interface

$

Hi

we have an issue where we have Exchange 2010 DAG, 2 members in primary site, and 1 member in the DR site

we have a separate replication network at each site on its own VLAN etc, config is below:

SITE1:

EXCH1 192.168.1.1 - MAPI

EXCH1 10..1.1.1 - DAG

EXCH2 192.168.1.2 - MAPI

EXCH2 10.1.1.2 - DAG

SITE2:

EXCHDR3 - 192.168.3.1 - MAPI

EXCHDR3 - 10.1.3.1 - DAG

there are static routes added for the DAG networks using netsh, these work, pings and traffic work as expected out the correct interfaces.

all hosts can talk to each other, and after allot of work, we have the DAG working as expected, with one Mounted and 2 healthy DB's

now the issue is: all of these hosts are sending packets out of the MAPI interface on port 445 to the DAG IP's of the other mebers, even the two that are in the same site, and have local connections to each others 10.10.x network

i.e., EXCH1 wants to send a packet to EXCH2 10.1.1.2, but it leaves the 192.168.1.1 interface, not the 10.1.1.1 interface, and this is routed via the default GW.

and the same goes for all the others, each member is trying to send 445 packets to 10.10.x.x hosts out the 192.168.x.x interface

note that all the DAG traffic does go out the correct interface, so there is traffic on port 64327 going out the 10.1.x.x interfaces and arriving at the correct interface of the receiver no problem.

so my question is - why? DAG isn't supposed to use 445 anyway, and why on earth would it try to contact an IP that it has a local interface to the subnet for, out a different interface?

and is this a problem? as the DAG seems to be working OK but the logs look horrible

this is a really odd issue and any help would be appreciated

Maximum message size for internal users

$

Hi,

Is it possible to configure a maximum message size for internal users and also create exceptions?

The templates available in Transport Rules only allow for "when size of any attachment is greater or equal". This is not ideal as users can add 50 X 1MB attachaments to an email etc.

Configuring Transport settings or Receive Connectors do not allow for exceptions.

Thank you.

Outlook problems after adding new AD sites

$

Hi

Initially we have a single AD site with Exchange 2010 SP3 spread across 2 physical sites.  Outlook access is purely done using outlook anywhere as it is forced in active directory.  No other methods is allowed such as MAPI (which is default of course)

We recently added new AD sites as per best practices.  I assigned subnets to sites.  I also did the proxying as per MS article.

I also went with Method 2 and put the registry key on all of our CAS servers to bypass site dependencies.  -->  https://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2725008

  • OWA works (After I took care of proxying)
  • ActiveSync works (After I took care of proxying)
  • Outlook doesn't work properly (It is off and on + kind of slow) if the database is mounted on the site that is not internet-facing.  It says "trying to connect".  Some time it connects, some time it doesn't, some time it takes a few minutes to connect.  It is all over the place

What is going on??????

Receive connectors not restricting what IP's can relay mail?

$

Exchange version is 2010 SP3 RU6.

For some reason, Exchange is allowing any system internally to relay email.  I don't have SMTP installed on our HUB.  I've been searching around for hours.

I have a few receive connectors:

Client ServerName

Default ServerName

Managed End Users (for users who for some reason need to relay email..)

Printers

Servers

Servers [Externally Secured] (only certain systems need to relay to external destinations such as gmail, etc).

I have the list of IP addresses in servers, servers [externally secured] set.  It was working for a long time and today I just found out any system can relay email on our network.  I logged onto a system on the network, but not joined to the domain, and it was able to relay email.  My workstation which I don't have in the list of IPs for any connect can also relay email.

I'll try to collect some images.

Thanks!

good day ,

I start to remove Exchange2003 after success migration to Exchange2010 SP3 I delete the connector

w2k3-w2k10

w2k10-w2k3

I followed this link step by step:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg576862%28v=exchg.141%29.aspx

I have two exchange2003 one w2k3frontend and w2k3exch

for w2k3frontend from add/Remove program is not working I did it with ADSIEdit

but for w2k3exch I get this message:

This server is the master routing routing group first routing group that contains other serveurs.Impossible uninstalling this server without first select a new master routing for this routing group or delete all servers in that group routing .

This server is the server update recipients for the domain. you can uninstall only after selecting another server update of recipients for this area.

so if this still master routing and  the server update recipients for the domain so no problem if I delete from ADSIEdit .

can you please help me

Hi,

We have one CAS/HUB server, two mailbox roll servers in a DAG. Both mailbox roll servers have public folder database and both are replicate each other. Now we are going to office365. Now we need to install client access roll on public folder database server(mailbox roll server) for office365 users to access the public folder from on premises according to

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn249373(v=exchg.150).aspx

We don't want get any problem after installing another CAS server roll. Our users' outlook should not interrupt with new installation. We are not setup client access array here. We are installing this for public folders access to office365 mailboxes. How to install and configure?

Please help us to achieve this.

Thanks & Regards.
